1.
VERSE 1 Come, let us sing to the Lord; let us shout for joy To the Rock of our saving help; come. VERSE 2 Come with thanksgiving and psalms; let us raise our voice To the Source of our present help; come. CHORUS 1 For the Lord is a great God; Mighty King over all gods. In his hands are the caverns of the earth. VERSE 3 Come, let us bow to the floor, let us bend our knee To the will of our Maker Lord; come. CHORUS 2 For the Lord is a great God; Mighty King over all gods. In his hands are the caverns of the earth, And the heights of the hills are his, And the depths of the seas are his, With his hands he has formed the whole wide world. BRIDGE He is our God, we are the people of his land and the sheep of his hand. He is our God, we are the people of his land and the sheep of his hand. He is our God, we are the people of his land and the sheep of his hand. Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice! CHORUS 2
2.
VERSE 1 Alleluia! Christ has been sacrificed. Oh, break the Passover Host; Jesus died for us, so let us keep the feast. Not with the leaven of malice and evil, That old, dry leaven, corrupting the people, But with the unleavened bread, That heavenly bread of purity, love and truth. VERSE 2 Alleluia! Christ being raised from the dead, He will not die again; Death no longer has dominion over him. The death that he died, he died to sin, once and for all, But the life that he lives, he lives to God. So regard yourself dead to sin, And alive to God in Christ our Lord. VERSE 3 Alleluia! Christ has been raised from the dead, Just the way that he said; First to rise among the ones who fell asleep. For since by a man came death and corruption, Like that by a man comes the resurrection. For as in Adam all die, So also in Christ shall all be made alive. ENDING Alleluia! Christ has been sacrificed. Oh, break the Passover Host; Jesus died for us, so let us keep the feast. Let us keep the feast. Let us keep the feast. Alleluia.
3.
VERSE 1 I will sing to the Lord, for he is lofty and uplifted; The horse and its rider has he hurled into the sea. The Lord is my strength and my refuge; The Lord has become my Savior. This is my God and I will praise him, The God of my people and I will exalt him. CHORUS 1 The Lord is a mighty warrior; The Lord is a mighty warrior; The Lord is a mighty warrior; Yahweh is his Name. VERSE 2 The chariots of Pharaoh and his army has he hurled into the sea; The finest of those who bear armor have been drowned in the Red Sea. The fathomless deep has overwhelmed them; They sank into the depths like a stone. Your right hand, O Lord, is glorious in might; Your right hand, O Lord, has overthrown the enemy. CHORUS 2 O Lord, you’re a mighty warrior; O Lord, you’re a mighty warrior; O Lord, you’re a mighty warrior; Yahweh is your Name. BRIDGE 1 Who can be compared with you, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like you, glorious in holiness, Awesome in renown, and worker of wonders? VERSE 3 You stretched forth your right hand; the earth swallowed them up. With your constant love you led the people you redeemed; With your might you brought them in safety to your holy dwelling. You will bring them in and plant them on the mount of your possession, BRIDGE 2 The resting-place you have made for yourself, O Lord, The sanctuary, O Lord, that your hand has established. The Lord shall reign for ever and for ever. CHORUS 1 CHORUS 2
4.
VERSE Lord, in your mercy Hear our prayer
5.
VERSE Most merciful God, We confess that we have sinned against you In thought, word, and deed, By what we have done, And by what we have left undone. CHORUS We have not loved you with our whole heart; We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that We may delight in your will, And walk in your ways, ENDING To the glory of your Name. Amen. Amen. To the glory of your Name. Amen. Amen.
6.
VERSE O gracious Light, Pure brightness of the everliving Father in heaven, O Jesus Christ, holy and blessed! PRECHORUS Now as we come to the setting of the sun, and our eyes behold the vesper light, we sing thy praises, O God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. CHORUS Thou art worthy at all times to be praised by happy voices, O Son of God, O Giver of life, ENDING And to be glorified through all the worlds.
7.
INTRO My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, My spirit rejoices in God my Savior; For he has looked with favor on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: CHORUS The Almighty has done great things for me, And holy is his Name. The Almighty has done great things for me, And holy is his Name. VERSE 1 He has mercy on those who fear him In every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm, He has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, And has lifted up the lowly. CHORUS VERSE 2 He has filled the hungry with good things, And the rich he has sent away empty. He has come to the help of his servant Israel, For he has remembered his promise of mercy, The promise he made to our fathers, To Abraham and his children for ever. CHORUS OUTRO My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, My spirit rejoices in God my Savior; For he has looked with favor on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed.
8.
VERSE Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, Or watch, or weep this night, And give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, Bless the dying, soothe the suffering, Pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; And all for your love's sake. Amen.

about

MATINS & VESPERS is a collection of 8 new musical settings for Morning and Evening Prayer, liturgically known as Matins and Vespers. At the beginning of the 2020 pandemic, when everyone was isolated to their homes and unable to worship, pray, and fellowship in person, we (the Flanigan Five) sought refuge in the Book of Common Prayer. Most mornings and evenings, gathering around the table for breakfast and dinner, we'd open our prayer books, confess our sins, pray the Psalms, hear the Scriptures, offer intercessions and thanksgivings, and it was never easy. Our saving grace many days was the beautiful piano that had recently been given to us. Music makes the prayers more accessible, and much of the Daily Office is actually meant to be sung. So, since there is no music in the prayer book, we made up our own.
