about
Based on the Collect (focused prayer) for the Holy Saturday from the Book of Common Prayer:
O God, Creator of heaven and earth: Grant that, as the crucified body of your dear Son was laid in the tomb and rested on this holy Sabbath, so we may await with him the coming of the third day, and rise with him to newness of life; who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
lyrics
VERSE 1
There silence, darkness, and death’s sorrow was
In Jesus’ Sabbath rest within the tomb.
The Son of Man had given up his life.
A stone had closed the Lord in silent gloom.
VERSE 2
A seed had fallen to the stone-cold earth,
And, gently, as the silent Sabbath fled,
That seed began to sprout its living shoot,
As new life rose and into daylight sped.
The light that since creation’s birth had shone
Was hidden by the stone that closed it in,
But with a burst of light that marked the shroud,
The Light of Christ, new light, shone out again.
VERSE 3
The mouth that spoke from God’s own depths his Word
Was silenced by a facecloth on his head,
But, glorified, he spoke the Word anew.
The Word himself had risen from the dead.
New growth now comes to those who stomped the seed,
And those who quashed the lamp now walk in light,
Now those who silenced God can hear him speak:
Dead live, deaf hear, and blind receive their sight.
